Product Description

APIXAN-5 contains Apixaban 5 mg, an oral anticoagulant belonging to the direct oral anticoagulant (DOAC) class.

Apixaban is a direct Factor Xa inhibitor. Factor Xa is an important component of the coagulation cascade involved in thrombin generation. By selectively inhibiting Factor Xa, apixaban reduces thrombin generation and helps prevent the formation and extension of blood clots.

Apixaban is used under medical supervision for appropriate thromboembolic conditions. Established indications include reduction of the risk of stroke and systemic embolism in adults with nonvalvular atrial fibrillation and treatment of deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism (PE), as well as reduction in the risk of recurrent DVT and PE following initial therapy.

Mechanism of Action

Apixaban selectively inhibits Factor Xa, an important enzyme in the coagulation cascade.

Factor Xa contributes to the generation of thrombin, which is involved in the conversion of fibrinogen to fibrin during clot formation.

By directly inhibiting Factor Xa, apixaban:

• Reduces thrombin generation
• Reduces fibrin formation
• Helps prevent blood clot formation
• Provides anticoagulant activity
